Survival Techniques for the Outdoorsman

Outdoor enthusiasts often find themselves in a survival situation when the natural elements become severe. Becoming lost or stranded during these times will then quickly change this scenario into a life threatening situation.  How you respond will determine whether you live to tell your story, or die in the middle of the muddle.

Priorities become very important.  What should be done first, and how do you accomplish it?  What should you do to insure your survival?  Unless you are knowledgeable in Nature’s potential and experienced in her extremes, you may find yourself threatened by emergency situations that you are unprepared to meet.

Each year hoards of hunters, fishermen, campers, hikers, and the like enter into remote areas to enjoy the “call of the wild”.  Many of these will penetrate this vast area mechanized in the form of  4X4s, dirt bikes, or snowmobiles.  With these modern conveyances, it is now possible to travel into the “boondocks” for thirty minutes, and be so remote that you cannot successfully walk out on foot, if a survival emergency becomes evident.  For these outdoorsmen, it is essential to have a background in survival if they are going to live through this type of emergency.

What about you?  Are you prepared to meet this type of emergency?  "Can’t happen to me", you say, "I don’t even get off the beaten concrete trail".  But, it can and does happen.  You can start your preparation now.  Check out the items below to help inform you of the problems in outdoor survival and your options in living through them.

You can live only a few minutes without air,

a few hours without body warmth,

a few days without water,

and a few weeks without food.

Consider Priorities in Survival Situations
